Working with the Obama campaign this weekend in my home state of Nevada was incredible (exhausting/hot but incredible). I was lucky to meet a group of intelligent, like-minded people all from different backgrounds, ages and nationalities. I heard stories from folks who had suffered job loss, homes under water, student loans gone awry, veterans, health insurance issues, etc.
Everyone who had been affected in some way by the economy but took days out of their schedule to drive from Southern California and hit the hot ground with clipboards and voter registration forms. We also met San Antonio Mayor Julian Castro (!!!) who was campaigning for Obama in Las Vegas and came by speak to volunteers before we started canvassing and registering.
Ran on five hours of sleep and many iced teas, I will be back in Nevada at the end of September. If you aren’t registered to vote, please visit Gotta Register today. Deadlines for all states are coming up in the next few weeks!
And if you want to volunteer with Organizing for America in your neighborhood, no matter if it’s a few hours of phone banks or canvassing in a nearby battleground state - it’s the most important contribution you can give to the campaign and you’re guaranteed to have an amazing and educational experience. Become a volunteer.
